Baking Class Gift Vouchers are available.

Where?

The Wild Bread Bakehouse, Macknade Fine Foods, Selling Road, Faversham, ME13 8XF.

When?

Classes are on Sundays from 10am to 4pm.

What?

This hands-on class covers how to bake three types of sourdough loaf using very different methods: a Basic Wheat sourdough made using a gentle ‘no-knead’ artisan method, a Rye-Wheat sourdough using more traditional hand kneading techniques and a 100% Rye sourdough which is made in one simple process of mixing, shaping and proving. You will learn how to incorporate both wheat and rye sourdough starters into your home baking. Full instruction is given on the whole sourdough process from creating and taking care of your wheat and rye starters, weighing ingredients, mixing, developing dough, shaping, proving and baking. We show you how the basic sourdough recipes can be adapted to make many other kinds of bread, including sourdough pizzas, which we bake for lunch topped with local cheeses and seasonal vegetables. Tea, coffee and a sweet sourdough treat are also provided throughout the day. You will bake your Rye-Wheat and 100% Rye loaves in the afternoon, and then shape and place your unproven Basic Wheat loaf in a sustainably made wood pulp proving basket, to take away with you and bake at home. By the end of the day we hope you’ll feel confident in all aspects of sourdough bread making.

Class sizes are limited to 6 people.

How much?

The class costs £100 for the day and includes a sustainably made wood pulp proving basket, wheat & rye sourdough starters, instructions and recipes, pizzas for lunch, tea, coffee, and all other ingredients.

    Hi all
Just to say that if you’re thinking of doing a course go for it. Me and the missus had a great day at the bakery, James is an inspiring baker and makes it look so easy that you will be baking at home after the course.
    All the best
    Colin
